Announcement on The 1st World University Underwater Robot Competition (WUURC)

In order to promote the continuous innovation of underwater intelligent vehicle technology, accelerate the cross-integration of underwater intelligent equipment technology and other disciplines, and enhance the cooperation and exchange of underwater intelligent vehicle technology among countries, the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and Harbin Engineering University jointly initiate to hold the 1st World University Underwater Robot Competition. The competition aims to promote the advanced technology of marine intelligent equipment, stimulate the cultivation of innovative talents and promote the exchange of students globally. It also aims to create a platform for the exchange and interaction between Chinese and foreign young students in the field of underwater intelligent vehicles and stimulate the innovation passion of young students all over the world. The competition arrangements are hereby notified as follows:

3.Date

August 16-August 20, 2022 (including registration and training time, the regulation competition date is August 18-August 20)

4.Tracks and Participants

(1) Race tracks

The competition consists of three tracks: Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Controlled Underwater Vehicle (ROV), and Prototype Track. Each team selects the corresponding track to participate in according to the vehicle type, technical parameters, and competition conditions. The AUV and ROV tracks are on-site competitions, while the fixed tracks are off-site competitions with video to be submitted for competition.

(2) Participants

The competition is for university students around the world. There is no upper limit on the total number of teams from each institution. In principle, the number of participants in each team shall not exceed 8, and the number of instructors shall not exceed 3.

In principle, the number of each team in Prototype Track shall not exceed 5, and the number of instructors shall not exceed 2.

5. Participation Methods

The competition venue is located at Harbin Engineering University Qingdao Innovation and Development Base (Guzhenkou University Town, West Coast New Area of Qingdao). Teams participating in AUV or ROV track race will compete on the spot at Harbin Engineering University Qingdao Innovation and Development Base. In case of failure to participate in the contest due to pandemic and other reasons, the participating teams shall submit a video recording in which the teams complete the actions (one group or any item) specified in the competition rules at one time. A letter of integrity commitment must be signed to ensure the authenticity of the submitted video and design instruction. The teams participating in the prototype track shall submit a vehicle design instruction in English or Chinese in accordance with the requirements of AUV Track or ROV Track, introducing and demonstrating the vehicle designs. The design instruction should be written in English or Chinese separately for review accordingly. 

6.Awards 

The competition offers the first prize, second prize and winning prize to award according to the scores gained by teams. The winning ratios are 10%, 15% and 25% respectively. The teams of AUV and ROV tracks will be scored according to the on-site operation. The teams of Prototype Track will be comprehensively scored by the referee panel based on the video recordings and vehicle design instructions.

7. Competition Registration and Relevant Issues

 All teams are requested to apply for competition from its university and send the "Reply Form" (Annex 3) to the designated email address: w2urc@hrbeu.edu.cn before July 15.

 No registration fee will be charged for this competition. Harbin Engineering University will assist to provide accommodations for all participating teams at their own expense (transportation, accommodation) for their travel to Harbin.
